Ramadan

Even though it's Ramadan in the heat of the summer, the days are beautiful and nights are marvelous. You really should be fasting in this situation to know what I'm talking about. It's really a nice Ramadan, still in Japan. This is my 7th Ramadan in Japan (5th consecutive), and I never had such a good time.

I'm actually busy with writing my dissertation. I'm determined to submit it by September 24. It's very close I know, but I had to push myself to finish it.

Wish me luck...

Paper accepted

Finally and after about 8 months, my paper to Geoderma Journal was accepted and will be published soon. This paper is relating the ancient historical land use to the probable cause of a landslide in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, which occurred in July 2006. It was not easy to write such paper and connect these two things. Far as I know, what we tried to say and we fairly addressed has never been considered in such detail with relatively convincing reasons. It's one of its kind.

I hope it will be well received by the science community, and I hope that encourages me to write more.

well, who knew? I thought by the end of this academic year (March), I'll be out of here to the real world. guess what? no.... I'll stay over here in Kyoto for another six months. Why? uh, I answered that question so many times that I don't remember the answer any more (like how???). Now, I have to add some more to my research to get it passed. May by July, I dont know, or may be in September. Let's see...

Rules

I just heard from a Japanese friend (annoyed) that the rules change in Kyoto University without proper announcements. This was a kind of shocking for me because I always thought this is foreign students problem to know about a law or legislation or a rule of the university a day before a deadline or after making a big mistake. Now, I know it is a malfunction of the university'e officials to consistently and properly announce the changes.

Kyoto is warm again; we had a week or two of cold weather and now I'm sweating like a pig again. The worst part is when it gets cold in a few hours and runs our noses.

As I'm in trouble to run a model as the ultimate stage of my Ph.D, I go around and talk to people who could help me. I just realized that not many people would like to take the risk of helping me, perhaps due to some inter-disciplinary conflicts. Well, I think I should have thought about it before. Poor students at the middle of the war... To be honest and with all love, Japanese academia is involved in such conflicts among the sections and professors much more than any other system I know or heard of...

Well, I finally moved out of BlogFa, one of the main Persian web log provider, and started writing here in a more international platform. I hope you enjoy my little opinion every once a while and keep coming back.

I have to admit that this is one of the best Ramadans I've ever had in my life. Even though, it is still bit hot a humid, but I'm having really good time doing my research and not suffering much. I believe though that a good Ramadan required a bit of more touch!!!

Last Friday a friend of mine, who plays piano very well, came and took us (me and some other friends) to the cafeteria of the campus, where there is a grand piano, to play some piano for us. I filmed some part of his play and put in Google Videos. You can find them on these three links below:
